The
potential for developing a better understanding of the causes and
treatments for Down syndrome is at a critical time
in history.
Genetics
and molecular biology have made great strides over
the past five years. Much of chromosome 21 implicated in Down syndrome
has been identified, but not understood.
The
amount of scientific research into Down syndrome has not been
keeping up with the opportunities that genetic technologies
have made available. Significant progress can be made
toward medical interventions for Down syndrome, by turning
genetic research into clinical solutions.
Your
help is critically needed to help increase the total amount
of research for Down syndrome.
How
you can help:
Support
Down Syndrome Research directly by making a donation to the DS Research & Treatment
Foundation or through
the National
Down Syndrome Society.
Please
contact your elected officials and ask them to increase
funding for
Down Syndrome research in the budget of the National Institutes of
Health.
